the impermanence of beauty
(as a feeling)
the impermanence of beauty (as a feeling.) - statement, 2005
There are times when I feel too much and it makes me happy to have a camera. I like to focus on the light. Internal feelings are being filtered and mirrored through the documentation of public and private spaces. In this series, moments that would have otherwise gone unnoticed, were captured and frozen in time. Only later, were they pieced together in a different context, to represent a misplaced memory. Each image, though many are blurred, is a fragment of clarity, a still point. I can remember each of these moments. Yet, at the time they were captured, I had very little recollection of my past. It seemed as if my memories had all been deleted, but somehow returning in moments of panic, like puzzle pieces forcing me to remember a whole. The light. The symbolism of these instances. The desperate search for beauty. The need for answers at all costs. Nostalgia, loneliness, confusion, exhaustion, questioning…all revealed through visual poetry. These images are proof of hope, of existence, of a lost soul seeking clarity. Representations of an emotional reality.
The camera and the photograph are secondary, the mere physical part of an internal process of connecting with the world, with a moment. Allowing this beauty, that once seemed so impermanent and transient, its clarity.
